Asbestos detection using Hyperspectral Imaging
Vigilance has completed the first phase of a Hyperspectral Imaging project to detect Asbestos - Cement roofing in the Netherlands. During this initial phase a total of 2.700 km² has been mapped using the Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI). Asbestos - Cement roofing has been utilized in the past but its use has been banned in the Netherlands since 1993. The Netherlands wants to eradicate all asbestos - cement roofing by 2024. Hyperspectral Imaging is a powerful technique to classify or identify materials based on its spectral reflectance. Making inventory using this Remote Sensing technique proves to be very efficient in terms of cost and speed.
